After a year and a half of struggling for their son, the family of Larry Jackson Jr. is calling upon your support once again. Detective Kleinert, who murdered Larry in the summer of 2013, is trying to move his case to federal court which will allow him to be immune from prosecution by the state.
LaKiza, sister of Larry Jackson Jr., says “All my family wants is justice. Kleinert is trying to do everything he can to evade responsibility for killing my brother. Justice for my family is to see Kleinert behind bars.” Jackson’s death at the hands of police is a bitter reminder of the racism that continues to thrive in Austin and around the country. To this day, not a single officer in Austin has been prosecuted for murdering an unarmed person of color.
On Tuesday, March 3rd, Judge Lee Yeakel will decide if Kleinerts case will be moved to federal court. Whether the decision is in our favor or not, we are asking everyone who can to come out to a rally at the US District Court at 7PM that day. If Judge Yeakel denies Kleinerts request, then we will have cause for celebration, and if he grants it, we will need to voice our disappointment. Join the family of Larry Jackson Jr. and The People’s Task Force as they respond to Judge Yeakel’s decision and lay out plans to continue the struggle for justice in Austin.
